After SQUARE ONE, the group released the single album SQUARE TWO on November 1, 2016, and made their Japanese debut with a self-titled EP on August 30, 2017.

Their first EP, SQUARE UP, came out on June 15, 2018, led by "DDU-DU DDU-DU", followed by the EP KILL THIS LOVE on April 5, 2019.

BLACKPINK released "How You Like That" on June 26, 2020, and their first studio album, THE ALBUM, on October 2, 2020. THE ALBUM debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200, then the highest position for a K-pop girl group.

After the single "Pink Venom" (August 19, 2022), the group released their second studio album, BORN PINK, on September 16, 2022. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the first album by a K-pop girl group to top the chart.

The BORN PINK world tour ran from October 15, 2022, in Seoul to September 17, 2023, and grossed about US$330 million — the highest-grossing tour ever by a girl group.

In April 2023 they headlined Coachella on both weekends, April 15 and 22, the first Asian act to headline the festival.

In December 2023 the members renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities but not for individual activities, so each member pursues solo work separately: Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa set up their own companies, and Rosé signed with The Black Label.

On November 22, 2023, during the South Korean president's state visit to the United Kingdom, King Charles III presented the members with MBEs for their role as advocates for the COP26 climate summit. Rosé's MBE is a substantive rather than honorary award because she also holds New Zealand citizenship.

The group began the DEADLINE World Tour at Goyang Stadium on July 5, 2025, and released the pre-release song "뛰어 (JUMP)" on July 11.

Their third EP, DEADLINE, followed on February 27, 2026, with "GO" as the title track.
